Every educational institution belonging to the Manipal Group is found to be having interesting history and Dr. T.M.A. Pai Polytechnic is no exception to this. This institute was founded in the year 1985 with the purpose of providing technical / vocational education and better carrier opportunities to youth of Udupi – Manipal and surrounding places. Generally youth who found it difficult to continue their education after completing their 10th standard due to various reasons are the ones who seek admission to the Technical Diploma courses offered by the Polytechnic.
Our beloved founder Dr. T.M.A. Pai had rightly said, “ Not all the fields are first class fields. You must identify and plough third class fields as well, put good manure, sow good seeds, supply adequate quantity of water and try to see whether you can beat the records of the first class fields. This is exactly the challenge before the educationists today to identify so called Not so brilliant students and bring the best out of them to be on par if not better than the so called Brilliant students.” Dr. T.M.A. Pai Polytechnic has been founded with this concept in mind and is doing all its best to meet this challenge by developing right kind of infrastructure and environment to effectively deliver quality education to the needy. The net result of these efforts by the management is obvious if we carefully observe and follow the statistics relating to the numbers of the students successfully getting admission directly to the second year of the Graduate courses in their respective fields in reputed Engineering colleges under the lateral entry scheme. The Corporate and Industrial world have also found out that candidates who take up and complete their graduation after completing Diploma are found to be Engineers of better caliber due to their more exposure to practical education during their Diploma course and under going significant exposure to relative theories in depth during graduation. Many of these companies give better positions and better salaries to such candidates with both Diploma and Degree compared to persons with only Degree and no Diploma. There is a gradual increase in demand for admission to our Diploma courses from students of other states, which also goes to prove that we are one among the best Polytechnics in the country.
Hence may I call upon all our beloved students to understand these facts and not to under value your Diploma education? Even those who do not go for graduation are in good demand for employment or entrepreneurship. They can compensate for all their so called “past failures” and make their noticeable presence in the society by progressing confidently with a positive mind set.
I call upon all my Teaching and Non teaching staff colleagues to continue and further strengthen the Team Spirit and Discipline envisaged by my predecessor and former Academic Coordinator Lt. Col. Victor D’Souza. Even though we miss him a lot, we are happy that he will keep guiding us as a member of our Governing Council. On behalf of all the staff and students of our Polytechnic, I wish him and his family “Happy & Contented Retired Life”.
